Riverside Hit-and-Run Car Accident Critically Injures Teen ...

A recent car accident in Riverside has critically injured a teenage girl as she was hit by a speeding driver near a street intersection. According to a CBS News report, the 17-year-old had been involved in fender-bender type collision the night of October 15, 2009, at the intersection of El Sobrante Road and Circle City Drive in Corona, California and had stepped out of her car to exchange insurance details with the other driver. Corona police say at this time a 1987 white Mercedes sedan raced through the intersection and struck the parked cars. The teen, who has not been identified, was trapped between the cars and sustained major injuries. The impact apparently severed one of her legs.

Hit-and-Run Causes Serious Injuries

The driver of the Mercedes fled the accident site. However, officials have a photograph of the suspect that was taken by the traffic camera at Rimpau and Magnolia avenues as he jumped a red light at that intersection. Police are now looking for the suspect described as Hispanic man in his mid 20s with close cropped hair or even a shaved head. At the time, a young girl, about 7 or 8 years old is believed to have been in the front passenger seat. If you saw this accident or have information, please call Corona police at 951-736-2334.

I sympathize deeply with this teenage girl who has been so terribly injured by the reckless actions of another individual. I understand she may never have the use of her severed leg. Tragic! My prayers are with her and her family and I hope she will have a complete recovery.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one fatality and 30 injuries involving pedestrian accidents were reported in Corona, California. In Riverside County as a whole, 43 deaths and 393 injuries were reported as a result of pedestrian accidents in 2007. Also, during that same period, 279 deaths and 9,925 injuries were reported in Riverside County as a result of all traffic accidents.
